Power of Prayer

As we study the word of God we find there is an area that the church is weak in.  That area is obviously prayer.  Thankfully, we are given the power of prayer and the belief that God answers prayer.  Some people are skeptical of this power of prayer that people talk about.  The people who are skeptical are usually those who do not pray or lack power of prayer in their lives.  They do not obey God when He reveals His will for them.   There are a large number of us that pray each day and yet we don’t get that victory every time that we should.  In both the Old and New Testaments, there are people who had fantastic prayer lives and some that did not.  Let us find out the difference.

David was a man after God’s own heart.  What was different about David?  The first thing that we see is that David served Him, but there is something else.  David prayed and praised the Lord.  Many of the men of old prayed, but even when David sinned he praised God and through repentance combined with the power of prayer - God responded.  As we look at other people in the Bible we find that they also praised God.  Paul and Silas were in jail.  They had been beaten and in stocks in the inner most part of the prison.  The Bible says at the midnight hour they began to sing and praise the Lord, and they were set free.

We cannot learn about prayer just by listening to others.  We need to praise and also utilize the power of prayer daily in our lives.  Prayer was a consistent feature in Jesus’ life.

Daniel praised and prayed to God.  So did the three Hebrew children.  Peter was on the rooftop praying to God, and a vision came.  Notice that Judas didn’t pray and praise the Lord.

When Jesus went to pray - He praised God.  Notice that Jesus prayed all night some nights.  If we think that we can pray for five or ten minutes and everything go our way - we have another thought coming.  Great leaders of the Bible were great at prayer.  They used the power of prayer to lead their daily lives.

It is important that we pray in God’s will, and never pray for something that would be wrong.   What is God’s will?  Anything that Jesus prayed for is ok for us.  Pray for healing, forgiveness, salvation, restoration and so on.
Through the power of prayer you can be saved,
you can be healed,
you can be forgiven,
you can be restored,
you can be delivered from addictions,
you can be find peace,
you can find joy, and
you can be set free.

All through the Bible we see men and women who had effective prayer lives, the kind of life that turned the head of God.  The power of prayer was evident in Jesus’ life and in many others lives.  This power of prayer is still working today.  Praise God – we can still receive His blessings today through the power of praise, and the power of prayer.
