Like Mephibosheth suffered a physical fall, You and I suffer from wounds of a fall also.  He lived in a distant land, he could not walk to the king and was afraid to talk to him. He was unable to help himself.

David made the first move. He sent for Mephibosheth. Just like David God sent Jesus to seek and to save, that which was lost.

David gave a personal invitation to come and Mephibosheth came.

Jesus gives you and I that invitation to Come to Him, "and as many as received Him to them He gave the right to become children of God to those who believe in his name."

Answer: We become closer to God by studying his word (the Bible).
God wants us to be close to him. He wants us to learn more about him. We learn more by reading the Bible and going to Church. We can also become closer to him by praying. We can thank him each day for our lives and what he has done for us and our families. We can ask him for help with anything that is bothering us at any time - day or night. We can tell him our hopes and our fears. He will listen to us when we pray. God loves us so much he wants us to be happy and to follow him.
